FAQ

How do I find a name?

Type it in the search box, in English or Arabic letters. Spelling does not need to be exact: “noor” finds Nour, and “mohamed” finds Mohammed.

Why do Arabic names have several English spellings?

Some Arabic sounds have no English letter, so families write them in different ways. Egyptians often write Mohamed, while Gulf families write Mohammed. All are correct; we list the common ones on each page.

Where do the meanings come from?

From the well-known classical Arabic dictionaries, and from history books for famous people. We do not link names to personality traits, because a name does not decide who a person becomes.
