QR code for a PDF, Word file or video

A QR code can’t hold the file itself, only its link. Upload the file to Google Drive or similar, then paste the share link here.

The code is made in your browser. We don’t store what you type, and the code never passes through our servers.

How to use it

  1. Upload the file to Google Drive and set access to “Anyone with the link”.
  2. Copy the link, paste it here and check the message under the box.
  3. Download the code, then print or share it.

How do I get a link to my file? (Google Drive)

  1. Open the Google Drive app or drive.google.com, tap “+” then “Upload”, and pick the file or video from your device or photos.
  2. When it finishes, tap the three dots next to the file, then “Share” or “Manage access”.
  3. Under “General access”, change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” as a Viewer.
  4. Tap “Copy link” and paste it in the box above.

The same works with Dropbox, OneDrive and iCloud Drive: what matters is that anyone can open the link without signing in. For videos you can also upload to YouTube as “Unlisted” and copy that link.

Before printing, open the link in a private window or on another phone. If it asks you to sign in or “Request access”, the link isn’t public yet.

Large files open slowly on phones. If a PDF is over 10 MB, shrink it first with Compress PDF.

FAQ

Why don’t you host the file?

Because a QR code only holds a link. Keeping the file in your own Google Drive keeps you in control: you can update or delete it, and the code doesn’t stop working if some other site shuts down.

Can a PDF go inside the QR code itself?

No. The largest QR code holds about 3,000 characters, far less than any file.

If I edit the file, do I need a new code?

Not if you update it in place on Google Drive (for example “Manage versions” then “Upload new version”). A newly uploaded file gets a new link.

Can you tell whether the link is public?

We can’t look inside your account, but we recognise the type of link and warn you about common mistakes. Test the link on another device before printing.

How long will the code work?

As long as the file exists and the link stays public. WeTransfer links expire after a few days, so don’t print them.
